One in a Million

A million women using their purse power to help save the world

Good afternoon friends! I have had a problem finding a "green" deodorant that works. I have tried numerous different brands like Tom's, Nature's Gate and Burts Bee's. I loved the way the Burts Bees worked but the smell triggered my allergies. Just curious if anyone has found something that works and the smell isn't over powering or too floral. Floral scents trigger my allergies. I do better with citrus or fruit smells. I do work out so I need something with staying power.

Hmmm - I haven't checked lately, but maybe Burts is making a fragrance-free deodorant. I've heard that crystals are a great deodorant, but haven't tried them myself. I tried Miessence and was pretty satisfied with that, but it's not available in stores. You need to order it online. I think I link to it from the personal care products/cosmetics page of my website, www.biggreenpurse.com

Hi Gretchen,

I too have had trouble finding a 'green' deodorant that works, but have stumbled upon something that does! It is called 'Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal' and it's a roll-on. It's in a clear bottle with a blue cap, and it has no scary ingredients that freaked me out when reading 'Big Green Purse'. You can get it at WalMart for $2.99 or CVS for $6.99 (yes, for the exact same product size)!!

Best of luck!

I've heard crystals work but never tried them. And now you can get them at CVS? I'm going to take a look!

Yeah, the crystal's really work. It does not matter on the brand at all. My husband has been using them for 15 years and has turned me on to them. They are safe even for my two year old that pretends to put some on. By a travel size one for traveling since they are kind of heavy and they can break. But the broken pieces can be put in a ziplock and then carried with you.

It really works my husbands pits do smell when he does not use it and they don't when he does.

Another great (and cheap) option is baking soda. Yes, it really truly works. I put it on dry underarms with a powder puff each morning. I love it!

All of the crystal deodorants I have found in my area are sold in a small plastic bag. I try to avoid packaging waste, especially plastic, as much as possible. So baking soda, which I purchase from bulk bins using my own container, is the best option for me.

And yes, it really works!

I never thought about baking soda. I'll have to try it. But I'm also amazed to hear you can buy baking soda in bulk. Is that at a food coop?
